If I'm correct he has never won a one-day race (apart from time trials), but he has often shown form. His lack of finishing qualities on non mountaintop finishes makes it hard for a rider to him to won a race like this. But I'm sure he'll be there and I wonder what the tactic of the Dutch team will be.

From what I see in both giro and tour, I really think dumoulin is the best gt rider in the world. He is more complete than froome. Froome can't destroy the field anymore in the climbs so I think dumoulin will not have any problem in following froome's accelerations.
Skyborgs will be very important next year. Froome will have to race like contador

What and blow up half way up the last climb as per? lmao

Yeah. With a lot of TT kilometers Dumoulin can be very dangerous. Times when Alien was doing 1000 RPM's uphill dropping everyone easily are gone and Tom can be competitive in the mountains against current version of Froome.

Thats not really that surprising given how Dumoulin was riding today and well, just generally how he climbs especially in time trials. Just got that much more power and I only think he is a few kilos heavier anyways.

Dumoulin shouldn't need big TT km's to challenge Froome in the TDF - I suspect the alleged 35km TTT could be crucial in determining GC.

beating Froome in a one off TT that he's done is nothing to fighting it out with Froome over 3 week's, Tom D has beaten Froome while either much rested or never facing Froome in a grand tour GC race

I thought he was 1 of your 2 favorite riders

He is a distant 2nd, probably, but I'd much rather want to watch a good race than a bad one where one of my favourite riders win. Not including enough time trial kilometres will maybe discourage Dumoulin from showing up and that we can't have.

The dream scenario is when Dumoulin is ahead, Froome trailing with 1-2 minutes and the Movistar guys (Quintana, Valv and Landa) with 3-5 minutes since Dumoulin and Movistar realistically are the only one to threaten Froome seriously. Then we will have a race and thats why I hope for a long time trial.

probably yes, as the fatigue accumulates during a gt, tom's time trial superiority may slowly melt down, but it's not so important since providing there will be a really tt-loaded tour edition, it definately forces sky to prepare the soil for another ax-3 and psm which is very good for a fascinating race.
