Tony says he had a bad day and never got any rythm. He says he's pretty clueless why he was doing so bad today. He hopes to improve as the race goes on.

Ein schlechter Tag

Den heutigen Tag muss ich so schnell wie möglich abhaken. Eigentlich wollte ich beim Prolog von Paris-Nizza um den Sieg mitfahren. Am Ende hatte ich als 28. 25 Sekunden Rückstand auf den Sieger Larsson. In keiner Phase des Rennens habe ich zu meiner Stärke und zu meinem Rhythmus gefunden. Ich bin ratlos und könnte sagen, dass es einfach nicht mein Tag war. Ja ein schlechter Tag, schlechte Tagesform. Das kann es gewesen sein. Aber man denkt natürlich trotzdem nach. Sicher waren die Straßenverhältnisse bei den letzten Fahrern durch die Nässe nicht mehr die besten, wodurch ich ein paar Sekunden verloren habe. Auch hatte ich nach der Algarve mit einer Erkältung zu kämpfen, die noch nicht ganz weg ist. Aber ich möchte das nicht als Ausreden verwenden. Außerdem habe ich jetzt auch keine Zeit, mich auf irgendwelche Grübeleien einzulassen. Die Rumdfahrt ist noch lang und ich brauche dafür einen klaren Kopf. Es kann und wird noch viel passieren. Für uns als Mannschaft sieht es ja auch nicht so schlecht aus. Levi ist Dritter geworden. Das ist eine gute Ausgangsposition für uns.

Froh über das Ende einer turbulenten Woche
Ich bin froh, dass diese turbulente Woche vorbei ist und ich zurück in der Schweiz bin. Das Bergzeitfahren habe ich als Formtest genutzt und bin auch voll gefahren. Das Ergebnis ist allein von der Papierform her nicht aussagekräftig was meine Form betrifft. Die Motivation war nicht mehr die beste und das wirkt sich dann natürlich direkt auf die gesamte Verfassung auf, psychisch wie physisch. Mit der Rundfahrt bin ich persönlich nur mäßig zufrieden, aber ich mache mir keine Sorgen und erst Recht keinen Stress. Wer weiß, ob noch ein Effekt in mir gesteckt hat und ich deshalb nicht mobilisieren konnte, wie ich es gewohnt bin. Außerdem ist es noch früh im Jahr. Ich werde jetzt bis zur Baskenland-Rundfahrt Luft dran lassen und dann sehen, wie sich meine From entwickelt.

All I can ask is "Why"? No one else is on form? Was this the team's predetermined schedule of who would be leader at each race? As Libertine said this really isn't ideal terrain for Martin to excel, especially considering his recent lack of form in the area that is his specialty.

Definitely if it would be his target but because it's not I would say he will not.

even if he targeted it he wouldn't top 10. he simply can't climb and there is no amount of itt that would make a top 10 possible.

also i doubt he will trullly lead quick step, bottle and velits and much better bets for the overall

Yeah, they are just finetuning now. Martin will lap the whole peloton on the champs elysées. Twice.

It's for sure that he will not lead OPQS at TdF.

Last year he was dropped on the first serious mountain of the race. Maybe you mean he needs last year's form, and 5 kilograms less?

I don't see how Levi won't be the leader. Good TT, good climber, easily forgotten in the peloton due to size, etc.

So one day until Pais Vasco starts.

In my opinion this will be an important race for Tony.
His start into the season at Algarve was pretty good considering hhis knee struggles in winter.
However, Paris-Nice was a real mess.
No it's time for Tony to make a first statement in order to impress the team leaders. With Velits and Leipheimer also at Pais Vasco, Tony needs to do well.
An ideal scenario would be a solid Top 15-10 in the overall standings and a stage win in the TT. This would prove upcoming form.
At Romandie he should then go and fight for a podium in the GC.

The Romandie tt contains this climb from Mollens to L'Aminona. You really need to be in great shape to do well there.
