It's better than the 2004 Giro yes.

Is it really that difficult to understand what the premise of this argument is?

BASED ON RESULTS!!!!!

EDIT: And one last thing: I only wrote 'maybe', and if you actually saw the list he was above Cunego

Yes, because it's flawed. Giro attracts a more international field now than 7 years ago. And the Giro barely had any mountains. I'm just saying, Giro wasn't always as prestigious as it is now.

So you have to alter the premise of a discussion to even bother participating? I wouldn't mind having a discussion about ranking them, where it is you that decide the premise of the discussion, just as I expect you to discuss within the premise of this discussion :)

If you're basing a list on results than you have to go by the prestige of when the race was won.

A few examples:

Till the 60s Flèche Wallonne was more prestigious than Liège-Bastogne-Liège. So FW > LBL for those years.

This year's Giro will definitely be more prestigious than the Giro of the early 2000s when it was basically an Italian domestic affair.

Paris-Tours was once considered the 6th Monument, but no one in his right mind will claim now that Phil has won 5 Monuments.

And the last 10 years: Giro > Monument

Why do you rank Gilbert over Cancellara?

Neither do I but even without them, he has still archived more than Gilbert ;)

Palmares wise yes, but Sagan is in my top 10, so you should have known I wasn't basing my list purely on that ;)

And Gilbert and Cancellara is almost the same age :)

It wasn't based on age either. Cancellara gets minus points because he loses way too many races despite being the strongest. Gilbert gets bonus points because he's one of the only cyclists in the peloton to ride Milan-San Remo, Ronde van Vlaanderen, LBL and Giro di Lombardia and is a favorite for all 4 of them.

And yet he will most likely never win MSR nor RVV

Says who? He has podiumed M-SR twice already, same goes for the Ronde.

Gilbert has also done the Autumn double, very hard to get!

I would be interesting to see how these rankings would change at the end of the Ardennaises. Boonen would be ranked lower, systematically, before this year's cobbled campaign.

Ok, wishful thinking, would Alejandro move up the ranking if he does the triple ? :D

Due to the highly specialized nature of modern cycling is really difficult to do a top 10, a top 20 would have been easier or a separate one for GT, Classics/Semi-classics and TT.
Until the 70's a top 10 would have shown the true value of the riders as they all took part in all events to win them.
Here is my attempt anyway:

1. Contador
2. Cancellara
3. Boonen
4. Gilbert
5. Valv-piti
6. Andy (I know his palmares is not great and he thinks only at the Tour, but you
can't deny that he's world class)
7. Evans
8. Cavendish
9. Petacchi (in decline now but had a great career)
10. Nibali

Honorable mention to Vino but let's face it he's pretty much retired

That's quite the statement.

well it's the truth. he is at most a second tier cobbled rider and not even among the best ones on said tier, pippo, flecha, ballan are already better and next year guys like sep and boom will also most likely be better then hushovd. and he is what? 35? he prolly has at most 2 good seasons left in him for the classics so it's impossible for him to win roubaix.

Paris-Roubaix 2009.

you mean the edition where he was under so much pressure from boonen he misjudged a corner and hit the barriers? if anything that is one of the proofs that he lacks the class to win roubaix.
