Right, but still compare Cavs achievements to Cadel and Valverde who admitedly are a bit older, but still he doesnt really come close. Particularly to Valverde who has won a gt 2 monuments dozens of stage races, 1 day races, gt points jerseys, season after season ranked world number 1.

Are we making up results now?

Cav is a world champion and Valverde isnt. That the only reason why Cav is higher. Yes, Valverde have tons of nice results but he's lacking the most important one for his type of rider, meaing the Rainbow :)

And its very hard to compare Evans and Cav. Both won WC and Monument. Impossible to compare GT win with tons of GT stage wins.

I count Rebelin as retired.

Those having Wiggo on their list, do you really think that winning PN, 3rd in the Vuelta and few prologues here and there are good enough for him to be in the top10? If these are the standards, we could have 50 people in the top 10.

Tour win > 20 Tour stages

Evans won a Monument?

Cunego's palmares trumps Vino's IMO. 1 x Giro, 3 x Lombardia, 1 x AGR, TdF white jersey, years of podiums in the Classics, worlds medals etc....

Olympic Games
Silver 2000 Sydney Road Race
UCI Road World Championships
Bronze 2004 Verona Elite Men's Time Trial
Bronze 2006 Salzburg Elite Men's Time Trial

Cunego not the only one with WC medals, Vino also got a silver in the olympics.
And the white jersey? No way!.....
I would say that a third in the tour and a Vuelta victory is just as good as the igiro victory Cunego won.
3 Lombardia vs 2 LBL... hm up to you what you prefer (myself 2 LBL clearly, but never really been a fan of Lombarida)
And at last, what do you prefer a couple of classic podiums or noumerous weeklong stagerace victories?

+ ofc the fact that Vino for many years wasn't captain or had to co-captain his team, while Cunego loved by his many fans could do as he wanted to from quite a young age

edit 2: oh, and Vino got atleast 1 podium in LBL besides his victories so Cunegos podium argument is not that strong

Ok, i thought you might say that.

In which case, if the WC is the be all end all, why is Cadel below Cav? They both have a WC but Evans has a yellow jersey which is a million times better than the green jersey. Cav may have msr which is better than Fleche, but factor in all the stage races Cadel has won and there is a very very clear winner.

Come on guys.
No one can win this. Perhaps just open PCM and sort them by values. But thats lame.
It's much more than 10 and too close.
But would like to name some outstanding riders :D out of a pro peloton that usually includes only real worldclass riders.

Their class is shining brighter.

Contador
Valverde
Cancellara
Boonen
Petacchi
Evans

Last but not least, I am blinded by Sagan. SO young and so much class....Flawless diamond, that still has to be cut and polished.

Not as pointless as the young jersey which it replaces.
Nah, it doesn't replace the young jersey - the Vuelta didn't have that classification. It replaces the "metas volantes" or some other silly classification which was still a lot more interesting than the "combinada".

And I don't think the young jersey is pointless.

You can add 2 second places and 1 third place at Worlds. I think they count too.

You're right, Evans didnt win Monument, it was Fleche and i thought it was LBL.
So let's say:
20 Tour stages and Monument (for a sprinter) > Tour win (for a GT rider) :p
And btw, its not only about winning stages in Tour, Cav has many in Giro and Vuelta, for a sprinter that's a big achievement.

Even with that equation aren't you ignoring cadels tirreno adriatico, romandie giro points jersey vuelta podium.

8. Cav ( would have been higher if he won M-SR )
9. Valverde ( higher if he owns the Ardennes )
10. Martin

A bit harsh to Menchov/ Samu/ Andy/ Wiggins/ Nibali/ JROD but just my opinion and could not fit them all in. Kittel will be one of those soon.

Ok, so these posts in another thread got me thinking. Who do you see as the top 10 currently active cyclists? Rank them from 10 to 1 preferably.

And then you yourself procede to list from 1 to 10?? ;)

Anyway, since you ask for active cyclists and Alberto isn't an active cyclist (LOL on the Andy call though)....

10. JTL
9. Robbie McEwen (one more month of greatness left!!! And I think he's got more wins than anyone else in the peloton from memory for those look for a legitimate reason to include him in the conversation)
8. Nibali
7. Cavendish
6. Menchov
5. Cancellara
4. Gilbert
3. Cadel
2. Boonen
1. Oscar Friere

Sorry, still can't bring myself to pick Piti
