And then you yourself procede to list from 1 to 10?? ;)

Anyway, since you ask for active cyclists and Alberto isn't an active cyclist (LOL on the Andy call though)....

10. JTL
9. Robbie McEwen (one more month of greatness left!!! And I think he's got more wins than anyone else in the peloton from memory for those look for a legitimate reason to include him in the conversation)
8. Nibali
7. Cavendish
6. Menchov
5. Cancellara
4. Gilbert
3. Cadel
2. Boonen
1. Oscar Friere

Sorry, still can't bring myself to pick Piti

and you are so smart that you have a logical explanation for gil ahead of boonen? seriously?

You can't be serious.

Wiggins, Gerrans, Leipheimer, Greipel, Ballan instead of Contador, Gilbert, Evans, Cavendish and Cancellara?

His list seems to be based on which riders are on form right now, this very moment

OK, I take it a little bit like current profi Boxing rankings:

I. Roman Kreuziger (All-divisions, unified, 10 times and still undefeated Heavyweight Super Champion of the Universe)

II: Leopold König (Hero from Kitzbüheler Horn; UCI Super Champion)

III. Jan Bárta (Coppi e Bartali Dominator and Giro d'Italia 2012 winner; UCI Super Champion)
----------------------------------------------------------

UCI Light-Middleweight Rankings:
(I may be about to incline to take about last 4 years into consideration)

Champion: El Pistolero

n.2. Schleck jr.
3. Valverde
4. Evans
5. Spartakus
6. Cavendish (but not happy to say:)
7. Menchov
8. Nibali
9. Basso
10. Samu Sanches

Bronze 2004 Verona Elite Men's Time Trial
Bronze 2006 Salzburg Elite Men's Time Trial

Cunego not the only one with WC medals, Vino also got a silver in the olympics.
And the white jersey? No way!.....
I would say that a third in the tour and a Vuelta victory is just as good as the igiro victory Cunego won.
3 Lombardia vs 2 LBL... hm up to you what you prefer (myself 2 LBL clearly, but never really been a fan of Lombarida)
And at last, what do you prefer a couple of classic podiums or noumerous weeklong stagerace victories?

+ ofc the fact that Vino for many years wasn't captain or had to co-captain his team, while Cunego loved by his many fans could do as he wanted to from quite a young age

edit 2: oh, and Vino got atleast 1 podium in LBL besides his victories so Cunegos podium argument is not that strong

cunego also happens to be nearly 10 years younger then vino who won his first lbl at an older age then cunego's current age so its understandable to put cunego ahead of vino.

Current Active so I'll consider 2010 and 2011, start of 2012.
No particular order
Contador
Cancellara
Boonen
Gilbert
Evans
Rodriguez
Sanchez
Sagan
Nibali
Scarponi

Guys like Valverde and Friere I have more trouble with as their big wins were a little while ago. Same with Menchov. Wiggins has looked good from the Dauphine to now, but lacks a big win. Martin was unstoppable in many TTs and related 1 week events. Basso won a Giro, but not much else recently. Can't include Andy, if you gamble everything on one event a year you'd best win it. Cavendish, I'd include if he proves capable of winning something with a hill in it this year, 2009 is 3 years ago.

Lawlz, so true. I don't think it really makes much sense to adjust for age in this instance, and I have a hard time calling Sagan a top 10 rider at this very instant. Adjusted for age, yes, he's #1 by a mile (unless we inversely include the likes of Chris Horner as well), but he doesn't have any truly big wins yet, at least not by the standards y'all are holding the rest of the best to.

Now a list of riders with the most potential...
1. Sagan
2. Sagan
3. Sagan
etc.

Looking mostly at 2010, 2011, 2012 for consistency I can't go past Nibali, Evans, Rodriguez, Sanchez. I can't not include Boonen 2012, Gilbert 2011 Cancellara 2010 for their dominant classics seasons.
Sadly as I'm not yet a fan, though I may be after the tour this year, I fear I must include Andy, toughest race in the world, 2nd, 1st and 2nd and deservedly a favourite in any tour he starts. I have to include Cavendish as in one aspect of the sport he is head and shoulders clear of everyone else. (This upsets me as I prefer climbers)
The 10th...(I'm ignoring Contador as he's banned, though clearly the best)...I'll give a nod to recent performance and say Sagan. He is the best person in the world for a race that's too hard for Cavendish and too easy for Gilbert.

10 pages of discussion and not ONE mention of Marianne Vos. Do I have to do everything myself around here? I would have expected at least someone to pre-empt me on it!
