Riders who are mentioned but don't belong in the top 10:

In the first place, are we talking about their palmares or how good they are the last, say, 2 years? Cause if the last is the case, Freire doesn't belong there either.

- Wiggins
- Gerrans
- Leipheimer
- Greipel
- Spilak

I mostly agree with FF'Wilco's list.

Not much love for Cunego? Dude is a 3 time monument winner and a GT winner and was world number 1 in 2004.

1. Gilbert
2. Contador
3. Evans
4. Cancellara
5. Boonen
6. Andy

Well if we are talking about top of the top then i wouldnt really count short stage races no matter how prestigious they are. Classics like Amstel yes, but that wont change much. So i rate higher winning 3x Monument over 2x Monument and some stage races. But on the other hand Vino was 3rd in TdF and have two WC medals and Cunego only one. All in all i can agree that Vino could be placed higher then Cunego :p

Cunego's palmares trumps Vino's IMO. 1 x Giro, 3 x Lombardia, 1 x AGR, TdF white jersey, years of podiums in the Classics, worlds medals etc....

I find it amazing that anyone would rank Gilbert over Cancellara. They are close in the classics, but Spartacus is a freakin 4-time TT World Champion and Olympic Champion in addition to his 4 W's @ 3 monuments. Phil over Boonen is also a joke.

All the talk of Cav not being worthy of being on these lists....

Where would you have put Cipo in the early 2000s?

Let's not forget that Cav is also a two time world madison champion, have any of the others mentioned achieved this?

Stop your irrational gerraint hatred. I thought it was ott when you said he was a ***** for not riding the classics, ignorant of the fact that he was winning a world championships.

And now you hijack your own thread with this crap.

I miss Rebellin there, I rate him higher than Hushovd for an example, he won a monument(podiumed 5) and some other classics (also he completed the Ardennes triple, gotta give him credit for that).

Yes but mostly because he's a sprinter so he will never win a GT.

Right, but still compare Cavs achievements to Cadel and Valverde who admitedly are a bit older, but still he doesnt really come close. Particularly to Valverde who has won a gt 2 monuments dozens of stage races, 1 day races, gt points jerseys, season after season ranked world number 1.

I was putting it on rails actually. No track results in the road race section.

So you admit the Thomas snipe was off topic?

Good.

Back on topic, i do think its worth taking into account if a road cyclist has had success in other sports too.

3x FW, CSS and 2x Zurich I think. So yeah, he definitely deserves a spot in the top 20. But it's easy to forget him given the circumstances.
