lol the centenary tour and they have the shortest length of le tour in its history...a slap in the face for every real cycling fan.
downright pathetic and i will rate this route as a 3 from the start

the time trials, beautiful location but ridiculous length. huge disrespect to the 100th edition
alpe twice, terrible bad idea. are there any other climbs in france makes you wonder....what about madeleine from la chambre you fuccin idiots?
semnoz stage.....o rly? this will be great....if it was an ITT.

some few things i do like:
pailheres-bonascre. in my opinion this will always be a good choice for some great racing.
bigorre stage is also not that bad but i really doubt the favourites will attack here. probably another tommy voeckler raid which will be fun nonetheless
ventoux, because i'm sure 220 kms before the climb and the speed they will ride on it will take its toll
grand-bornand stage, not that bad but i expected something way better than this.seeing madeleine from la chambre that far way is heartbreaking.

overall, very bad route. of course that doesn't mean it will be a very bad tour. let's always remember giro 2009 centenary had one of the most shiity routes ever seen but still the heroes on the road saved the day. might be the case next year too

it had only like 5 stages, though :d

6 stages.

Edit: but recently there has also been TdF's shorter than this years:
2011, 2009, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001 to name the ones after year 2000.
And using overall length as a metric for route quality is a bit strange imo.

That ttt looks too long:(
Agree. 25Km is a tad too long. 20KM is my ideal length.

No Tourmalet

Good. It's terribly overused.

lol the ventoux stage. . . 220 flat kilometers before ventoux, what a waste of kilometers

Yr, but kind of expected it, after the rumours that the stage was to start from Givors.

Historic failure considering this is the 100th edition.
Agree with you on this one. I think we now have a clear indication of what Prudhomme considers a tough route:D, so expect the coming ones to be even worse:mad:

Im amazed at how some of these professionals speak and how poorly it reflects on the sport.

Surely you take every opportunity to promote the event.

Firstly, Froome saying the route is not as hard as he expected and secondly Wiggins saying he was more interested in the Giro.

Hugh

Good. They should talk straight rather than talk BS and being diplomatic. If the riders criticize the crap routes the Tour is putting up, they might at least try to come up with better ones in the future.

The only positives are a new MTF at Semnoz and perhaps the 2nd ITT.

Hello from a long time lurker.

I'm surprised no-one has started a thread about how rubbish the Etape is yet. Or am I missing something?

Hmm

Advantages:
Circular route (makes the logistics much simpler)
Scenic
Weekend
Probably a good one for non-participants to come and watch

Disadvantes:
The route

Yeah, I figured you'd all be too good for the Etape!
i don't think that has anything to do with it... riding L'Etape takes money and dedication, plus location location location.

if you're really interested in it, why don't you start a thread in the General section. maybe you'll find people that are interested too.

this particular part of the forum is for pros.

On paper, it seems a reasonably balanced route.
Clock kms about right, as is the amount of climbing.
My concern is how those mountains are stacked, both in profile within the race.
An uber flat week 2 will make or break this edition. I fear it may well be the latter.
Some of the mountain stages are very short, Ventoux excessively long.

I am pleased to see less of the old faithfuls and more novel ascents.

I don't it's really that bad, it certainly looks better than the 2011 and 2012 route (and the 2012 Giro and Vuelta for that matter).

The MTF's and the tree time trials seem like a decent balance, maybe the first ITT could have been 10km longer, but that's not a huge deal. I absolutely love time trials that combine flat parts with descents and climbs (much better than a boring MTT), so the second time trial seems great. 4 MTF's is fine, and it looks like there are two descend finishes that should have been a little more difficult, but are a good addition. I'm mostly dissapointed with the first week being a designated crashfest again. Corsica would have been perfect for a decent MTF to shake the gc up and prevent the madness of the last couple of years.

Looks like there are too many flat stages as well, but that's hard to judge at this point.

do you even understand cycling? with 220 km in the legs the climb will feel alot different than with 150 km. the famous 200 km border. this will be an epic ventoux ride
