Prudhomme: "un coureur de moins dans chaque équipe, pour une question de sécurité, ensuite pour que la course soit un peu moins cadenassée
Dunno about that, Sky only had 8 guys pretty quickly and they locked it up good and proper...hopefully there won't be zillions of roundabouts and winding in the last kilometers, that would help more.

Isn't this contradictory? You want more teams, yet you're happy with the news.

no it isn't contradictory. 22 teams with 8 riders is way better news than 22 teams with 9 riders

my bad about ventoux 1900 :L

Anyone seen anything on the actual route around Nice for the TTT? From the little video the loop is going North and coming down South presumably past the Marina and then swooping down on to the Promenade and the finish. If you know Nice and the swoop I'm talking about, it will be full on spectacular:) Cheers.

Don't know how they found so much flat in Corsica

Very average route in my opinion. I like the balance of TT (much better then last year, tho I'd rather short prologue then the TTT) and the amount of climbing stages aren't bad... but they are not good enough. What is with the tour and avoiding serious climbing. Do not like the stage designs. Great news if there will only be 8 riders tho.

Anyway a pretty disappointing 100th edition.

Didn't quite catch the map, but the Chorges TT will be very tough. Looks like 2 climbs in it.

Very tough IMO too, 2 steep climbs :
- "Route des Puys" ~6km@6% first climb of the Embrun Ironman
- "Côte de St Appolinaire" ~6km@7.5%, 1km@12% once climbed in 2003 TdF stage 9, made everything explode

Would be great if they start with 8 rider teams, makes it safer and more exciting with a little less control in the key stages.

IIRC:
Souvenir Jacques Goddet is given to the first rider to cross Tourmalet.
Souvenir Henri Desgrange is given to the first rider to cross the highest summit of each years TdF (like Cima Coppi in GdI)

Edit: So Port de Pailheres would be Souvenir Henri Desgrange for the 2013 TdF.

I think ASO violates this rule for Madeleine.

Ok.

In reality Souvenir Desgrange should only be Galibier imo, since that's where his monument is.

I also read somewhere that Souvenir Desgrange is given for highest point in the alps (which most of the time would be highest point in the TdF) but wasn't one of the two Tourmalets in 2010 Souvenir Henri Desgrange?

After the first week of stages in the last one most teams were down to eight men or even less! ;)

Sky lost a rider after the third of fourth stage of course

Because the first climb awarded the Souvenir Jacques Goddet (for the usual Tourmalet climb), and the second climb awarded also the Souvenir Henri Desgrange because the Tourmalet was also the highest climb in the Tour.

I think it works like this:
- Souvenir Jacques Goddet: 1st at the Tourmalet, 1st at highest climb in the Pyrénées if the Tourmalet isn't on the route
- Souvenir Henri Desgrange: 1st at the Galibier, 1st at highest climb in the Tour if the Galibier isn't on the route, or if the highest climb is in the Pyrénées, 2nd highest climb in the Tour (should be in the Alps)

Like in 2012 were Jacques Goddet was awarded on the Tourmalet (2115m) and Henri Desgrange was awarded on the Croix-de-Fer (2067m).

So this year it should be:
- Jacques Goddet: Col de Pailhères (2001m)
- Henri Desgrange: Col de la Madeleine (2000m)

But actually, the Souvenir Henri Desgrange should be awarded at Col de Sarenne as Sarenne is 1999m high, while Madeleine is in fact 1993m high. ASO always put Madeleine at 2000m instead of 1993m.

Wait so the tour doesn't actually cross 2000m at all next year?
