Considering Nairo did the giro, they would have been stupid (though admittedly they have been stupid in the past) to make valverde work for him

I cant imagine Piti working for anyone if he thought he had a chance himself.

Bala doesn't perform well in high altitude climbs

And we haven't gone to those altitudes often in this race, plus looked at the riders who are all grouped together and I think Valverde would of been with them if he had not lost it in Germany.
