So the Tour de France, with one of the crappest routes you will ever see, has now lost the two most talented riders on the startlist, within four stages.

What a race!
Yes, it's a terrible decision from a spectator's perspective, especially with the GC competition projecting to provide little entertainment once again

Haha yeah. I can't say I'm too bummed about this one tho as they clearly were stating an example, the guy thinks he can do whatever he pleases and people love and embrace him regardless.

Our lord and saviour Little Richard to the rescue.

Just seems like a knee jerk overreaction. It seems most of the riders were far more supportive of Sagan. McEwen‏ is an obvious exception (though I'm not sure if McEwen was advocating kicking Sagan out or simply a relegation), but I've seen comments on here about Petacchi and Armstrong not blaming Sagan and then the NBC guys like Vande Velde and Bob Roll not blaming him as well. And sure, you don't have to agree with any of them and they may have their biases, but I think it shows how grey this whole thing is. And if its grey, then I don't think you take the most extreme punishment

Has there ever been a race thread with a higher ratio of post-race to during-race commentary than this one?
Not that I can remember, but the Tour has a lot of history here in the Forum so there could be other times too.

Levi vs Cunego maybe?

LRP getting a wheel from Gerrans. It went on for weeks.....

Clarke. If it was Gerrans the internet would explode :p

"We applied article 12.104, irregular sprints, in which case commissaires are allowed to enforce a judgement to disqualify a rider and amend a fine."
Which says this:

Moreover, the Commissaires Panel may, in particularly serious cases, eliminate and fine a rider with 200 on the first offence

So they perceived this as a "particularly serious case". It is arguably not further defined, what constitutes particular seriousness of the case.
I think elbowing a fellow rider into the barriers at 60km/h has to be deemed 'particularly serious', IF they have decided it is either deliberate or willfully negligent.

And yet again you manage to make it sound like Sagan actually wanted Cavendish to crash. Give it a rest.

I DON'T agree with the expulsion of @petosagan from @LeTour. DQ on the stage ok, but kicked off the Tour!?! NO.
WTF?

Which is it Robbie? You agree or you don't?

How do you get DQ'd and keep riding the rest of the Tour?

I think it just semantics. A DQ is essentially a punishment. Isn't a relegation also technically a DQ? It's just the degree of punishment

You're the guy who "wasn't impressed" with Sagan yesterday so that's not a big surprise.

I don't fully agree with kicking out Sagan here, but I wish races in general were somewhat more strict with punishing infractions, including missing the time limit, drafting cars, etc., and also irresponsible behaviour in sprints.

He is still upset that his favorite rider crashed out in the prologue and that Sagan stole Valverde´s sure stage win yesterday.

He probably means that he agrees with a DSQ in this stage (so more or less the previous sanction) but not a DSQ from the Tour.

Me too, and, even if it is harsh in some ways, I don't think Sagan can complain too much about the decision. But it maybe would have been better if they'd have decided to set their precedents in a stage race early in the year, rather than in the first week of the Tour.

No I don't, but I don't like the way Sagan has behaved himself recently. Acting like a complete jerk - off and on the bike.

You see the fact that they just blindly defend Sagan and not defend him with Demare's idiot tactics makes it even more clear they don''t care about justice.

Even when, if you watch closely. and that is the culprit here: Sagan caused the first crash earlier with Demare as well.

You never know when an episode similar to Froome sprinting up Ventoux might occur.
