What do you think? Do they throw a coin with Ala who is going for it today?

They will both prevaricate before the stage.

Gilbert will go first to create a gap (could be with 1 km to go, could be an attack with a small group at the bonus sprint with 12 km to go.

Gilbert will be caught by somebody, maybe GVA, but Gilbert rarely goes completely all in just to explode 300m before the line, he always saves something and measures his effort. So Gilbert will hang in with the GVA-led group. Sagan glued to GVA wheel. Alaphilippe not very far behind with Valverde glued to his wheel.

Alaphilippe will launch his attack. If he wins, all well and good. If he doesn't he may well finish just in front of or just behind Gilbert. After the race, they will diplomatically claim they achieved the best result possible.

2017, stage stage 16. Top10 GC riders like Contador and Dan Martin losing time.

Turns out those stages are more frequent than some would think. :razz:

Can't believe people don't remember this stage. One of the most epic stages ever. Green jersey and yellow jersey powering away from peloton and going full gas in the last 12km. Amazing stuff, even though it was Froome.

Basically crosswinds from km20 to km160 (headwind on the climbs in the final, so timing will paly a big role)

I'm always stunned at how many people can afford huge camping caravans. Where do they keep them when they're not watching the TdF? There must be 10,000 lining the roads today. Are they all Dutch? Do British people take them on the ferry? So many questions.
