A climber from the break for the stage. I pick Thomas de Gendt... what a surprise.
I'm not sure these 2,5 km to the line suits Roglic so much, a gradient is extremely high. It is just a pure power climbing, no hiding, no following wheels, no strategy except yoyo. The strongest shall win, even small weakness can create big damage.
Expect quite big gaps, top 10 GC contenders will finish in the range of 2 or even 3 minutes.
GC finish:
- Landa
- Pogacar + 0:15
- Martin s.t.
- Bernal + 0:25
- Roglic + 0:30
- Badret s.t.
- Quintana + 0:45
- Porte + 1:00
- Uran +1:30
- Lopez s.t.
- Mas s.t.
- Yates +2:00
- Mollema s.t.
- Carapaz s.t.
- Big Tom +3:00
- Valverde s.t.
- Caruso s.t.
If the break is allowed to go far enough up the road (enough to take the stage win), I'm not sure how intense the GC battle will be at the end, since the bonus seconds on the penultimate climb and finish will no longer be available. I could be wrong (and often am).
This has Porte written all over it. Survived Stage 9 and hard to see anything stopping him now. Some will argue his 35 years are an issue, but like a nice red or port, he just gets better with age.
Wow peloton is in pieces and we have yet to hit the first categorised climb.
If they get tired now the peloton needs a rest and really need to give the break 40 minutes once they go awayWow peloton is in pieces and we have yet to hit the first categorised climb.
