I wouldn't hate it if Cosnefroy wins the polka dots as he's really given everything just to get even a couple of points, but I would prefer a real good climber shamelessly Virenque it.

If you Virenque hard enough the shame fades away, and who wouldn't want to wear the jersey on the podium in Paris instead of finishing 6th.

I also think Virenque's record is really achievable for some GC guys who will never win a GT, but I imagine not many want to bite the bullet.

Definitely. But there's probably more money in finishing 6th with an outside chance of podiuming (is that a word?) than getting the polka dot jersey.

If Ineos put Pavel in the breakaway so that Jumbo would chase and make the race harder, that should help Bernal, for them it was actually a great move.

Speaking of the grupetto though, clearly some experienced heads in it decided it wasn’t a great idea to be off the back so early given the nature of the stage

They didn't all came back though. Ewan, Kluge, De Buyst and Gibbons are still a couple of minutes behind the peloton.

It's not about what they "decide", it's about how fast the peloton is going on the climbs.

They came back because JV eased up the tempo.

I’m sorry to have to explain this to you, but when there are two moving parts, whether they get closer or move further apart is determined by the speed of each. Neither grupetto nor peloton was going flat out, so it very much has to do with what the grupetto decides.

It’ll stay fairly quiet now... Until the two Cat3 climbs after the intermediate sprint... Somewhere there the attacks will start, between 60k to 35k before finish... Unless Jumbo decides to ratchet it up a few notches and go for the “kill” somewhere there to gain some bonus seconds for Roglic... Hope, Pogacar or Bernal get most of them, if that happens:cool:

I hope they finish before 5pm, otherwise I'll miss the finish. Unlikely though. :(

Point is buddy, that had JV not eased up, it wouldn't matter what the groupetto decided, they would never had made it back :)

Idk, I really think most riders are gonna be fine. I feel like some people are overrating this stage a bit, like sure, it's difficult but some here are making it sound like it's historically difficult, which it really isn't. It's not even among the most difficult stages of this Tour

Did you see the first hour? If that had gone on, it would have definitely been a very tough stage.
