The universally accepted cycling race standard is 1 second, i.e don't snatch at it because of the danger/dropping it but don't look like you're holding on to it.

That's not the longest ever, though. Albert Bourton did 253 km in 1947, which stands as the record. However, I suspect that longer solos have been completed in the very early years of racing.
