It will be interesting to see how this turns out. If someone like Roglic crests the climb alone, will he be able to hold off a chase behind?

That's not the longest ever, though. Albert Bourton did 253 km in 1947, which stands as the record. However, I suspect that longer solos have been completed in the very early years of racing.
Yes, rr asked for the longest solo since when?
Compared to these two, Hirschi's is a late attack.

I think he more likely wants to get over the top with one or two other leaders, but preferably with a few others distanced. The 8km false flat is a long way to go solo, but if he’s with, say, Bernal and Pogacar for it they’ll all want to put time into the others and should work together.
