I don't think Ineos are too bothered about going in the break, Van Aert is doing a LOT of chasing here

I know Aru changed his trainer a couple of years ago. Could it be a case of that he might have gotten "over-trained" and just never recouped form again? I mean a lot of athletes careers has dipped rapidly, because they got over-trained. Never got back to their previous level again.

I know he did the operation to even out blood flow in his leg etc, but I always thought that sounded like a case of desperation even. Because he had been showing poor form.

Idk. Pure speculation.
His training camps with Tiralongo were known to crazy hard, even back in the Astana days. Having him race the Vuelta for 3 years in a row when he was already cooked when the race started (2 times he had faded at the end of the Tour) probably also didn't help either.
His recovery is also totally gone, the guy rides like someone with undiagnosed Mono...

Overtraining seems to get more attention in distance runners than cyclists for some reason. A lot of ultra runners in particular have burnt themselves out very badly. I remember seeing something about one American guy who won a few consecutive 100 mile races about 10 years ago who still struggles with periodic chronic fatigue now due to over training.

Didnt Kwiatkowski complain about something similar to "chronic fatigue" last year? When he wasnt really at the level we seen from him before. Most likely because he had been over-trained. Over-raced.

He needed a lot of time in the off-season to just rest. He hasnt really been much of a factor this year either, yet. Even if it hasnt been that many opportunities.

Yeah, most likely reasons why he just declined so fast. He was burned out in an early age.

If I were thinking about sponsoring NTT I'd definitely change my mind after stages like this. Only chasing, never in the break themselves.
