Am I the only one who thinks Martin should have avoided that crash?

Of course it is the spectators fault for being completely oblivious and standing there with that stupid smile. But honestly it just seemed so obvious that she was not paying attention and held the sign there for a while.

Martin clearly either expected her to remove it last second with no vision or actively sought a collision (being the only rider riding that widely). Both of which are reckless considering his responsibilities.

I may be biased though. This just strikes me as something Tony Martin would do...

I think everyone who knows her, saw her on the tv today, so it shouldn’t be too hard to track her down.

At the same time, I’m equally sure she feels absolutely awful about it, and is unlikely to do anything similar ever again.
There have been a lot worse cases of aggressive, unsympathetic and/or rowdy spectators. Especially on the mountain stages.

But a relatively "innocent" person holding a sign with a sweet message ended up doing much more harm.

She is likely hiding at her grandma and grandpa house. Although she almost eliminated my favourite i personally wouldn't go on witch hunting spree. In addition and in general i find the internet mob way worse.

P.S. UCI should ban selfies on races, though. If you are caught the fine is of the amount of the mobile phone was priced when bought. But not less than 300 CHF.

On the sign woman... when you have thousands of people on the road so close to the riders, some people are going to do dumb things. IMHO the ASO is hypocritical if they actually plan to sue. Don't want this to happen? Then ban spectators or pay for better security.
In fact, the ASO benefits from this since it generates more interest in a stage that otherwise would have been boring until the finishing climb.

In direct broadcast I clearly saw Roglic finishing third (or even second), but first results (based on transponder data) showed Vingegaard finishing third. Turns out it was Primoz on Jonas' bike.
Looks like the two have so similar bike size and setup, Jumbo didn't bother to swap the bike again.
Smart to sign a rider who is very similar in size and set up!

You have no idea what cycling is like. The whole time, fans are standing on the road, or hold banners over the road. 99 % of the time, they jump away just before the riders rush past. Or remove their flags or banners just in time. As a rider it's impossible to take this into account. Because then, you have to constantly brake. Riders are counting on the public to jump off just in time. But this time, the stupid lady wasn't looking at the riders, but at the passing camera. Tony Martin is absolutely not to blame. It's shameful that you accuse him of carelessness.

Should multi-million dollar cycling teams sue a working-class individual? It may render the individual destitute.
So what you are saying is that you can do whatever you want as long as you do it to someone who has more money than you? Plus, the teams don't have 'millions of dollars', they have million dollar budgets that are gone at the end of the season. Sponsors give them money for exposure. If that exposure is reduced due to the fault of an idiot...you see where I'm going... Maybe you were referring to all of the really wealthy riders?

Hopefully you are the only one!

For intentionally causing a crash that injured multiple riders. YES. For what she did, she should be JAILED for reckless endangerment at the very least. She MUST suffer MAJOR consequences for what she INTENTIONALLY did.

Yeah right. It was OBVIOUSLY totally premeditated. I'm TOTALLY sure she woke up this morning and thought "I've got this wacky stunt that will MAIM an d INJURE dozens of cyclists".

Yah, because the internet mob causes so many crashes.

Not sure where he's supposed to go, happened really fast and all he could have done was swerve hard into his teammate I guess causing an even worse crash

Truth is, 95% of other riders wouldn't have crashed here. They would have noticed the danger.

Tony Martin has a nag for displaying unnecessary dominance of social and physical spaces when it's not constructive. He noticed the danger but refused to react because of his principles.

I’ve thought about this but I’m not sure it would make a difference for The incidents we saw today. I think it more applies when the first stage is a flat sprint.
Totally agree.

But even if you have a prologue then stage 1 is a flat stage you still have the same issue. Then what? Oh let's just start with a mountain stage as it suits us. Pffft kwaito needs reprogramming
