Maybe don't wait for 2km to go to attack then.
Exactly, the route was not the issue here, even if double Bedoin side would have helped. Riders should be offered opportunities to take time on descents and there aren't overly many this year.

You don't give away the most prestigious stage of the entire tour, for a possible 25 seconds in GC for a possible 3rd podium spot.

Yeah, I know, that's why I said I understand it in this situation. It's just that if I have a hunch, and I would have expected that the team has from the training data, that Vingegaard can take the race to the best and Wout van Aert can win a tough climbing stage and is the best climber apart from Vingegaard, and Vingegaard is not a great descender, and van Aert is, and there's quite some descending on this stage... well, what I want to say I would probably have told van Aert before the stage he should not go for the win here but choose another stage and stay with Vingegaard here - but of course once van Aert is sure to get the stage win here, you don't give that up for a possible podium.

I doubt Jumbo knew that Vingegaard would be able to drop Pogacar and Carapaz here. He might have been feeling better today after his crash than he did during the weekend, but this level is still something new for him. I'm not sure he's going to be the best climber in the race from now on though, but at least he did take time ouf of some of the other contenders.

if you would have said 3 years ago that Froome and Cav would be climbing together on a double ascent of Ventoux, people would be thinking you were smoking crack!

well in 2012 we were treated to the ridiculous sight of Cavendish leading the Sky Train up a cat 1 climb...
