Why would you not set a decent pace up Télégraphe if the plan was to isolate Pogacar and attack on Galibier?
Because the full ascent is 1½ hour. They would only have Benoot to do Télégraphe, better to concentrate their effort on Galibier (which is plenty hard on its own). And the bigger the gap to the break, the easier Van Aert can pace himself when he waits.
