This valley road will forever remind me of 2015. If Valverde had given up his only Tour podium to pace that run-in, Nairo would've won that Tour. But as Rafa Nadal says if, if, if -doesn't exist.

Pidcock blowing up the break to gain 40 seconds on the descent when they'll lose 2 minutes on the flat before Alpe is a little ironic... although maybe Pidcock figures they'd haemorrhage on the flat anyway so might as well go for it

I'm pretty sure Pidcock is just descending in an efficient way for himself and hoping the others work hard to stay closer and that as a group they then maintain the gap to the base of the climb.

No point shipping a minute on the descent just so that you're 30 seconds better on the flat.
