They need like 4 teams working. Lotto and Alpecin isn't enough cause the break will have 4 minutes after the next climb if they don't want to drop Ewan, Groenewegen etc. After that climb they need to hope that BEX, QS help (maybe talk with them and promise you won't try to drop those sprinters or something).

Still think this can be a sprint. 2 minutes now, let's say 3 minutes after the next climb, but then Lotto and Alpecin can push the pace for 58 out of the 60 following kilometres to bring down the gap a bit ahead of the final categorised climb (not down to about a minute though because that means people will try to bridge). And then hope there are enough teams with a sprinter to ride for after that. Easier said than done with these engines up front but certainly given the wind, it seems possible.

How is this weak?
Well, today is not the weakest break, but when I saw it form, I though there was nobody interesting or exciting in it. And made me think how I've rarely been excites for breakaways in this race.

Where are all the riders? Mollema, Wellens, Fuglsang, Woods, Bonnamour, Rolland, Mezegc, Dombrowski, Velasco, Pinot, Storer, Dylan Teuns, Matej Mohoric, Damiano Caruso. Izagirr brothers have no form. Geschke can't be bothered to defend his kom. Don't know what Quickstep are doing. Bora has like 5 guys to send up the road on a stage like this. Cosnefroy? Paret Pantr e? Might as well be at the beach

Translation: I only care for breakaways that feature Masnada.

I mean, seriously, we have a former world champion, the reigning world and European TT champions, three seriously talented young riders and a former one-man team up the road, how are none of those interesting or exciting?

From the 2018 and 2019 Giro we know that breakaways containing Masnada are the best kind.

Pedersen I'm no that excited about
Ganna is a time trialist, for me he's boring
Kung slightly less boring but I don't see much personality
Simmons dodgy politics
Houle. Nice guy. Don't know about him and no results.
Jorgenson. Boring rider.
Wright. Seems like a nice guy. Maybe I support him if it stays away. But I don't get excited about random young riders with no wins.

It's just a dull breakaway

llmaestro99 trolls to much, it's getting boring

So BEX helped Alpecin bringing that big break back while they had a rider in it and now that they don't have a rider in front they don't help chasing. Ok then.

BEX did not help Alpecin bring the break back ! The biggest problem was not Alpecin chasing the three rider break BUT the initial three riders in the break not allowing the 1115+ riders to join - Once they join there are 20 riders in the break and it's a done deal.
