Lots and lots of people trying to get clear. Might need the climb to make it happen at this rate

A bit weird to think of the Tour de France just a few years back when the TV viewers only got to see the final half of the stages. So much information about the race was lost. But then again, it seems there were more "boring" breakaways back then and thus many kilometers of nothing happening.

According to Dan Lloyd (Who I like) Ganna is on fire at the moment. Does he mean today as I haven't seen much of him this tour!

Alpecin trying to get the big group back. Philipsen basically the only sprinter who survived (think Ewan too at the back; but Groenewegen, Sagan and Jakobsen def dropped).

If that group works together they're gone tho.

Perhaps UAE's plan is just going to be to try set up every stage for an ambush given the team quality isn't good enough to hurt JV in general

Imagine Kung, Jorgensen and Ganna just go to the finish like this. I mean you're not catching Ganna and Kung if you're not working together.

The leading three want the following group of 15 to catch up and then the break will go to the finish - Otherwise a break of three will be controlled by the peleton.

Alpecin burrying themselfves, I don't see how they can control this whole stage. Even if it's just Ganna, Kung and Jorgensen I wouldn't be sure at all with Philipsen only having 4 teammates.

And Sagan, Jakobsen, Kristoff are already dropped so no way their teams are going to help. Maybe BEX or Lotto but doubt they're confident.

They can't. But if they bring this second group back now then they can relax for a bit.

If they relax other teams just attack again. They need help from other teams and they won't get any probably.

Basically what's happening now.

Question now is: "How close to the peloton need to be to the front 3 at the approach of the 5km climb for attackers to be able to potentially jump across?"

I hoped that it's because they missed the break, but it doesn't look like they are interested in going in breaks

Naa they just want to control for Philipsen but don't think they realize it's borderline impossible with a 5 man team. Looks like BEX is interested too tho but still. You're not just going to catch a break with Ganna, Kung, Simmons, Pedersen, etc.

Maybe Lotto starts helping after that hard next climb if Ewan feels good cause they haven't done anything this Tour and missed the break once again.

Lotto still there with Ewan to help. If Lotto and Alpacin commit they might still get their sprint but chances are slim.
