He's done some solid climbing performances in the past - third in Roccaraso in the 2020 Giro comes to mind - but this is both on another level and in a Tour where he's struggled.

Even more bizarre given that he was getting dropped on the first climb. Then shelling known climbers out one by one on the second climb.

It's likely a bunch of the sprinters, lead out men we never see at the front on a stage like this. Heavier men so gravity helps.

There's definitely something about strong TTers being fast descenders, but probably (some) sprinters are very good at it too, yeah.
