Yes. Lest we forget Woods was certainly not shamed when he led out the sprint against Valverde and Bardet in Innsbruck 2018. And he managed that after leading most of the way up the impossibly steep final climb in the hardest edition of the worlds for many years.

Michael Woods can’t be discounted tomorrow as he looks to be in the best form I have noticed since 2018.
I'm a Canadian and as big a Woods fan as you'll find, but he's not winning a sprint from a group of any size. His best of winning from a group would likely look something like his Vuelta stage win in 2020 (which wasn't popular around here, as I recall).

I think I'm agreeing with this. I love this profile and think we are going to see some very surprising action; it will be better than Friday I think.
If Friday's stage is like it was up the Tourmalet, it'll be a sprint between the 2 favourites for the finish. As the stage is so short, I might have a small bet on a fastest ever time up the Grand Colombier.

This is a perfect stage for Jumbo to try something.

Send Wout in the break by any means necessary, let the Jumbo domestiques make the climbs difficult and on the last climb Vinge attacks in hopes of dropping Poga to reunite with Wout on the descent.

UAE better be sharp and attentive to stop Wout at all costs. He has a red bull helm, impossible to miss.

All Jumbo has to do is give the helmet to someone else and watch the confusion.

He stood up to Valverde. I'll never take away from him. And there's no Valverde.
On the other hand, the late Gino Mäder outsprinted him without getting out of the saddle in that 2021 Tour de Suisse final stage going over San Gottardo.

Jakobsen DNS.
There goes their best shot at a stage win this TDF. I don't see how they are going to win a stage, normally Alaphilippe would be their best shot but he doesn't seem to have it anymore. He's never the strongest in the breakaway and he isn't going to win a reduced bunch sprint against WVA or MVDP imo.

They better pray to god Remco doesn't leave for Ineos because without him they are rather mediocre.

I don't see anything happening here as far as GC is concerned, with what's to come on the following three days.

Lutsenko maybe, but there are probably forty realistic 'outside' chances for this stage win, bit of a lottery.

The only reason why anyone is hopeful of gc action today is Pogacar. Given the route, no other tour contender of the last 30 years would consider attacking, not even Contador.

With Tadej, you just never know. He should really steal Primoz' "Why not, eh?"
There are two factors very important and if they happen, we might have a chance of having gc action.
First and most important is the lack of jumbo riders in the break, specially WVA.
Second is someone, under 10 minutes in the gc, goes in the large break and jumbo have to maintain a hard pace to not let the break gain 7/8 minutes.

Contador has a history of attacking in terrain even less obviously suited for an attack. I shall not accept you tarnish his legacy ;)

With Jakobsen gone, we'll see everyone on Soudal (except Moerkoev) trying to hit the break today.

Whether they can find their way back to the "wolfpack" riding style, or it will still be "all for Alaphilippe" remains to be seen.

You can attack all what you want, if you don't have the legs, you won't win.
