I don't understand why VDP wastes energy on this, he has no chance of winning a stage like this.
has only really has no chance if he doesn't go into the break. even if he only has a slim chance, this is his final stage where he can do something. ASO has labelled stage 18 as hilly, but I still think it's a Phillipsen day.

If he gets away with 5 riders who aren’t as strong as him it could be a stage for the win. It comes down to indurance and freshness. But yeah normally it would be to hard. But you never know if the circumstances are good.

Vinge often on his own here, while Pog has two guys around him at all times.
Vinge is more worried than Pogacar, because of this he wants to be in the front (or Pogacar's wheel) all the time and I think he is racing very smartly, Pogi is a danger in these type of stages.

Honestly surprised no gc team hast any interest in eliminating all those riders behind. I guess they aren't confident in their numbers.
