There are two factors very important and if they happen, we might have a chance of having gc action.
First and most important is the lack of jumbo riders in the break, specially WVA.
Second is someone, under 10 minutes in the gc, goes in the large break and jumbo have to maintain a hard pace to not let the break gain 7/8 minutes.
Might even be that under the second circumstance, the other GC teams fighting for podium will chase hard to bring back the break and then another one will go; rinse and repeat until the gap is too small and we're too close to the finish and UAE decides they might as well give it a go. keeping the break within 7/8 mins won't be hard enough if the escapees are smart enough to realize that their advantage will stay the same if they slow down.

I don't see it, if the break is out in front far enough to take the bonus seconds on the last climb, Pogacar will not repeat his mistakes from last year, by expending energy on a stage where Vingegaard will just sit comfortably in his wheel to the line.

stage 1 says hello.

But no, probably not, also with a big stage coming up tomorrow. My point is though that if the other teams would be the ones to make it hard before UAE would start considering giving it a go. Jumbo keeping a 7 mins leash on the break won't do it for them. But if say INEOS brings the break back around the last climb, because Hindley is in it, then UAE might just try to see if they can control the stage so Pogi can win the sprint..

The only reason why anyone is hopeful of gc action today is Pogacar. Given the route, no other tour contender of the last 30 years would consider attacking, not even Contador.

With Tadej, you just never know. He should really steal Primoz' "Why not, eh?"
I beg to *** differ. Nibali and Remco would be licking their lips looking at the stage profile. I’m not sure Pog will attack though. He doesn’t need to.

If Pogačar is feeling really well, I think UAE could work for a Pogačar stage win plus bonus seconds at the last climb but realistically someone winning this from the breakaway is more likely. I will go with Madouas.

No, even if he is feeling really well they wont do that. They will wait until the climbs and hope the race is chaos until then. Hard start and someone on GC getting in the break so that Jumbo works all day.
