I would say they spent the energy to avoid a huge Pogacar attack. Mission accomplished.

Jumbo spent energy for Vinge to drop Pog, just like on stage 5 and 6.

Think Vingegaard shouldve tried something the last 3k of the ascent. If you close a 5s gap on motopaced Pogacar it implies you have the upper hand.

Regarding the motos... Organizers needed to put up barriers from the last left turn (with the Mont blanc view) to the summit. The motos were blocked by the overhyped fans.

Exactly; no conceptual difference between this and a stage finish. The organizers knew there would be a battle happening and they knew the climb would be full of idiots. The 'fans' unquestionably influenced the race today and in my view were to blame for the motos being out of position. Ridiculous. We don't need the instagram idiots, that's for sure.

Pogacar only has himself to blame really. It was his decision to soft-pedal once JV caught him. It was his decision to attack 600m from the top (where did he think the motos would go?). Where it was roped off, he got caught napping at the KOM/bonus sprint. He let Rodriguez nip round him onto the descent and then he lost his wheel.

The race for the podium is nicely poised. I don’t think Adam Yates will be in the mix if he’s to sacrifice himself for Pog

Too early to say, he's only got 37 seconds to the podium, with 3 more big mountain stages to go - and is a much better TT'er than Hindley (dunno about Rodriguez?).

Jonas was right on his wheel. There is nothing to suggest that Tadej's move would 've amounted to a convenient leadout so we should just let this go. The fact that rabid fans didn't knock one of them down is of more concern.

Of course he was on the wheel when Poga abruptly had to stop his attack as soon as he passed Jonas.

Pog attacked when he did because the day before he dropped Vinge with a sprint from that same distance.

Listening to the NBC commentators natter on about the moto interference and the possibility that some dramatic gap "could" have occurred...."but we'll never know".
Tadej loves to attack into conjested areas as a tactical advantage. Didn't work and Jonas was right on his wheel today rather than fighting around Kuss and the UAE clutter like he did yesterday.

Of course not but you could let the break go and the break takes the stage and riding of course hard but not super hard like Jumbo did today. In my opinion the effort doesn't match the outcome. Both teams should ask themselve should we do the same again?
