I think for two riders on such a similar level it is really hard to say that a stage fits one of them more than the other. Nonetheless, in the last few days there have been regular posts in this forum about "Vingegaard waiting for the Alps which suit him better", "Puy de Dome favors Pogacar, but at multi-mountain stages Vingegaard is superior", "Grand Colombier was a climb for punchers, on Joux-Plane Vingegaard will play his cards" etc.
True. We have seen a few attacks in this Tour where Vingegaard was on Pogacar's wheel instantly, but had to drop it after some while because he couldn't sustain the effort. I doubt that Pogacar would have distanced him again today, but it's also not impossible.

True, but I disagree with those posters.
As said way before the Tour started (and before Pogacar's injury), I think this Tour is better suited for Pogacar than Vingegaard.
IMO the only stage where Vingegaard can truly hurt Pogacar is the stage to Courchevel, and I had actually expected Vingegaard to be behind by now.

No, only those who wanted Froome to fail were laughing at him. Everyone else saw a rider put in a terrible position through no fault of his own fighting for his position. He had no way of knowing what the umpires would do, so he did the only thing he could do. Either way the point stands. Stuff happens, and the risk factor that the crowds bring is part of the joy of the Tour. Even if I’m screaming at the TV for someone to push the fat drunk guy running in front of the leaders into the ditch.

This is the second stage in this Tour when JV threw a kitchen sink at Pogacar and didn't break him. Most difficult stage of the race and interestingly for the first time in the mountains actually both guys cross the finish line together. They are very evenly matched on climbs and if nothing happens tomorrow then the TT will be massive.
I disagree that they were trying to drop Pog. I think they were trying to take the sting out of the attack they knew was coming from him, and they did just that. I watched it a bit delayed today, and wish I could have seen it all live, but I think JV have realized that Pog is strong enough to contend anywhere. They are trying to keep Vingo in a position to cover. Today, when he attacked and got the gap, it was "game over" in many people's eyes...except Jonas'. He rode like a bad a$$ today, whether anyone wants to admit that or not.

pog is making less and less separation each time.
and he was looking back many times during his attack, not a great sign.
he also seemed gassed at the top.
i expect the ITT to be determinative.

I don‘t buy into the view where Jumbo rides flat out all day, catches the break early and shreds the GC group only so they can avoid losing time.
especially as they would have remco next year who could be the last man in the train to launch him.

It was almost identical to Puy de Dome (i.e. 7-8 seconds of gap), albeit the attack was longer and Vinge managed to close the gap. I agree regarding the TT OFC.

First stage ever that I watched in replay without knowing the outcome. Hats off to Rodriguez. The motos kind of screwed Pog for some seconds, Tour is still open, Kuss is a machine, Adam was great today (without any meaningful outcome). The others are so so off, hard to believe...

I don't either, of course they were trying to stick it to Pogacar today.
It didn't work, but that's why you dust yourself off and try again tomorrow, and Wednesday, and Saturday.

Vingegaard was instantly on the Colombiere too. Hell, he was instantly on Pogacar's wheel when he first attacked on the Joux Plane. The problem is that the motos stopped his attack from being more than just an instant.

If Pogacar had something extra, he could have just gone again when the motos were clear, instead Vingegaard pulled the rope-a-dope on him, so I don't really see it as significant.
But as with all "alternative history" debates, it is entirely impossible to prove one way or the other.
...of course they rode to avoid losing time...GC battles are lost on losing time...they didn't lose time today, and they made the race hard enough, that Pog's attack was muted...which it was. Jonas clawed back to Pog...I mean, I haven't read the section of this thread, but 100% there were "GAME OVER" type posts, when Pog attacked. JV have said they want to wear Pog down, and it appears they are trying to do just that, but I don't think they set today as the day they were going to try to launch Jonas. I think Wednesday is that day, but it wasn't today.

neither rider is a traditional GT threat. it's only with the modern bastardization of GT routes that they get mentioned.
