What a weird finish! First Pogacar told Yates to drill it and then let him go. What happened? I think he suddenly felt weaker at the end (glasses on OFC). Vinge could've attacked but was too scared and was just looking back all the time lol. Pog accelerated at the end but lacked his best punch. The ITT will be massive. Bazzoka effort after a rest day.

UAE might have wanted Vingegaard to chase Yates since that would enable Pogacar to counter.

Majka actually waved to Yates to keep the tempo low with a hand gesture as well, if that means anything.

Great victory for Poels. They almost didn't show the victory, LOL.

I don't think the race has been boring, just that the 2 main contenders are so equal in strength. But this is the only time when I see the two contenders coming together at the Tour and enjoyed the race. Just because I know they are to the maximum of their abilities.

Vingegaard was 1 v 3 for the late game - not sure what the tactic was supposed to be other than "be on a whole different climbing level than TP and Yates" - but he's just not.

Yes, Pogacar wasn't at his strongest today, but plenty strong enough. If Vingegaard had tried a big attack from farther out, maybe Yates is able to limit the damage, and maybe Vingegaard overestimates his legs and gives up yellow in the attack.

Interesting situation.

Pog is a bit of a mystery at the moment, but possibly near his best level, see yesterday.

His form trend curve could be interpreted both as a case of inadequate aerobic base collapsing a bit and stealing some of his punch; or one open to the last bit of supercompensation and peak during the last week. Which one will it be?

Vingo looks simpler. Very good in absolute terms, like yesterday, but not stellar in comparison to Pog since the Marie Blanque. Don't expect him to improve or falter.

Honestly, I think the whole Yates "attack" was just daring Vingegaard to attack Pogacar so Pogacar could counter. I think this was just a really even duel today.
I really think Pogacar did not look good. Left some weird 1-2m gaps to Vingegaard behind Rodriguez and for the first time also couldn't gap Vingegaard for even a second.

So even if the Yates move was intentional, Vingegaard might have wasted an opportunity by being too passive.
