What's really annoying about this performance is all the pogacar fans on twitter now using it to act like he's some kind of victimised clean rider. As if it wasn't PDBF 2020 that paved the way for performances like these.

This is Indurain Level, maybe better. That is quite insane - you are not acknowledging how massive a ride this was by Vingegaard at all imo.

Pog on the other hand was the same climbing time as Simon Yates & then took the expected minute or so elsewhere.

And THIS is exactly why people should stop assuming Pogacar was having a good day.

Normally we would all expect him to murder Yates up the final climb.

More people would be happy than now, but I don't believe there would be less astonishment if Pogacar nearly caught Vingegaard on a 22km tt.

Previous stages were just ordinary everyday training passes for him.

A while ago I stated Jonas still had work to on his mental confidence, and was a critique of him not trying on sunday's last climb.

When he is forced to as here pre-stage and DS screams "show us you are the best in the world" into his ears, apparently he is able to do so.

OK I know this will probably be met hard by people who are already on their way to the other forum.
But I had a vague suspicion of Vingo doing damage (ok not to this extent, but anyway), partly because last year he showed that his TT was better, partly because I think the outcome would have been different if the same TT had been put in the 1st week.

I'm not a fanboy, I just find it highly irritating, when people instantly claim cheating, without a shadow of proof - especially when everyone could see Pogacar was totally gassed on the last part, and thus on a bad ride.

Nobody is saying "oh no, Pogacar is on a bad day", despite him not even being able to outclimb Yates.

It's ridiculous.

personal hot takes:

1. Vingo's greatest loss of time was when he tried to kill off Pog on the Tourmalet stage and ended up driving the pace with Pog on his wheel for way too long. A mistake, no doubt, in hindsight. Otherwise, his other time losses were fairly normal and not a sign of weakness (mountain-top sprints where Pog is virtually always going to outperform him).
2. Pog likely suffering third-week fatigue due to compromised prep. He is still Pog and awesome, but everything is relative.
3. Vingo generally way more aero than Pog (even when both on TT bikes).
4. Unless Vingo shuts down after the TDF (as he is likely to do again, unfortunately), he is presently top candidate for Velo d'Or (Itzulia, Dauphine, TDF, 3rd at Paris-Nice and that other stage race win). Everyone handing it to Pog after the spring should have been more patient (just like last year). Now, there is still a good chance Pog wins it since he is likely to have more results the rest of the season - though he suggested that he might take a break to let his wrist really fully heal.

Vinge had a VAM of 2200+ m/h between T2 and T3 but the most striking thing to me is that he had 1865 m/h of VAM from T2 to the finish line (which is barely 6.6% on average!). His last 13 minutes were alien.
