He was positioning his leaders on the climb, so he couldn't just sit up like the other sprinters did. He probably also wanted to test himself, but I don't think he expected to be able to stay with the best (at least no when they were going hard on the climb). But if he wants to have any chance of winning the green jersey, getting some extra points yesterday could have been quite important since he probably won't be the fastest in the bunch sprints.Smart of Pedersen going as deep as he did yesterday? Surely his team knew that UAE would drive hard on the last climb. Or is it just a sign that they don't think he stands much of a chance in more pure sprint stages?
