None of them were there for their own chances today.

It was about getting heavy guys out in front, to possibly survive Soudet, so they could help their GC riders until the last climb.

They could have sit in the back of the large group hoping they could have stayed there until the summit. That would have been a doubtful strategy. Going alone out in front was even more doubtful. I can't remember having seen heavy guys going first over the summit of a HC climb and pulling for team mates afterwards.

I thin peak Hindle or not they now probably will commit fully but who gives them something... Buchmann alone for 40 kms won't cut it.

Will UAE give up Yellow? Apart from Trentin the team is altogether in the peloton. Can not see Pogacar not attacking at some point.

No way, this is a calculated risk. He could still get over Marie Blanc ahead of the peloton and if that happens, Jonas has a chance if he goes for it.
None of these plans are sure things and if they dont work out doesnt always make it stupid
There is nothing smart about riding 50k in a 3 man-attack 20 seconds in front of a group that contains severals pairs of other teams who have extra incentive (KoM, GC) to keep the break distanced from the peloton. Everything he did on the Soudet was a waste on energy.
