It is the biggest race and he is one of the best riders in the world.

The preparation was what it was. Better to start and do his best, than to stay away or drop out early for minor reasons like some other riders.
Would have been a good excuse to do the Vuelta, though. He will definitely try to complete the GT triple later in his career, why not start now?

Pogacar will attack from anywhere trying to win this Tour tbf, so definitely not over

Yes probably but it got him nowhere last year and this year he is weaker and Vingegaard is as strong if not stronger than last year.

I doubt Vingegaard can use it a lot, not that strong when it comes to downhill pace.

That is simply not true.

He is a really good descender, same level as Pogacar.

Though Pogacar has a slight advantage on downhills that are not technical, because of greater weight.
