Are the DSes getting a little bored too? "It's really busy back here, but we got your ice drinks."

I need some rest days after what we've just witnessed. Tomorrow's good.
Sure, but I think how the modern peloton races these kind of stages is a farce. Contrast it to the day tomorrow which is still 'flat', but at least you have the illusion of a break succeeding due to the final being somewhat hilly. It just makes such a huge difference in how riders approach stages, and rightfully so, because theres no chance in hell anything will succeed today.

In short, I think you just wanna do anything to minimize stages like this and instead create some at least somewhat unpredictable finales - can the sprinters make it, are they gonna be tired, who's gonna control, can the break make it etc.? Thats why I tune in.

Yeah, not every stage has to be a mountain stage or even hilly but these pancake flat stages... Doesn't get more boring and predictable than that.

This is the Tour. There will be flat stages. It's like going to an American football game and complaining about the violence.

Also, the Tour is far more than a TV show. In France, people love having the Tour in their area. They love that mile-long caravan throwing hats and candy for the kids. It's all part the this great, insane event.

I know there will be flat stages, but does it need to be the case? And do there really have to be so many? One or two would suffice as far as I'm concerned. I don't mind stages that could potentially end up as a sprint but these pancake flat stages I could really do without. The Tour is a commercial product first and foremost, like all other huge sporting events. The fact that French people enjoy having the Tour in their area really isn't one of the priorities, I think it is a little naïve to believe that. It's all about the money in the end.

I think it would be odd, if there were no stages for the sprinters at the Tour.

One of the things that make the race great is, that we get to see the best in the world in any aspect of road cycling - incl. sprinting.

Then there will be even less fireworks in the other stages if the riders don’t get their rest.

Of course it's about money. The caravan is a money maker for the Tour. And the reason it makes money is that people love it.

Jasper the Disaster would not like to see fewer sprint stages. The great sprint teams are here for these stages. It's the biggest stage on the calendar, by far, for sprinters. They are and will continue to be a big part of this event.

Thats just a strawman argument. Were not arguing there shouldn't be sprinter stages, we are arguing you should look to minimize completely flat stages (especially early on where teams are compact, and thus contributes to a much more controlled race) in order to maximize your product and reason to actually watch the race for sporting reasons. Tomorrow, for example, is a sprinter stage, but a much more interesting one where you have some small hills to shake it up and the sprinter teams and sprinters actually need to work.
