Lol. I was rooting for him during the cobbles.

This is just bad managment by Jumbo driving the peloton this entire finale
I don't know if you saw, but Van Aert was exactly where he needed to be, then got boxed in mainly because Laporte stopped pedaling. The speed with which he came at the end shows that he actually could have won. So to criticize him now, is unfair. Also, 'at the expense of Vingegaards safety' - eh what?

Van Aert making his entire team work at the expense of Vingegaards safety only to lose every battle for position in the final 500m.
Also weird to only use Kuss after the hill when Van Hooydonck was done.

Wout must apparently always be criticised. I'm sure it's also his fault that Vingegaard didn't win Thursday.

Not a great lead out by Laporte. Too slow and not then instead of pulling off just sort of slowed down, leaving Wout boxed. He clearly had good kick to come back for third. Without being boxed, he might have won.
Don't think he was too slow as he was leading at the time he tried to pull over, but couldn't as MVDP swerved over. Just unlucky for WVA as he probably would have won given that he had to stop, then start again.

Laporte worked too much before. The should have saved Nathan for the last couple of kilometers instead of doing that megapull on the climb. Contrast that with Alpecin Deceuninck where MVDP keept the position and went hard just in the end.

Riding at the front until 1K to go is not at the expense of Vingegaard's safety, Ineos used to do the same thing for years, both to keep their GC captain safe from all the fighting for position going on behind, and to capitalise on any gaps forming.

So all the hype about this being a stage for Wout or MVDP with a difficult climb, and in the end it was just a regular sprint stage with a gentle uphill. And now we have also lost Mark Cavendish to a crash.

WVA is getting angry. His team can't help him the way he helps the team. Can't see where he will win a stage now.

Regarding cavendish... regardless of his unfortunate exit, i actually think sharing the record with Merckx might be more mythical than beating Merckx's record, from Cav's perspective. He will always be mentioned in the same breath with Merckx. This is not the case for plenty of other riders who hold a record over Merckx.
Yeah, no.

Pedersen has won a stage in the last four grand tours. He has ways to go to equal Petacchi though, who did it in five grand tours in a row, including a stage win in all three in the same year and 15(!!!) in total that year.
15 in total this year will be hard ;)

But yeah, four consecutive Grand Tours with stage wins is very impressive.

I think Mathieu would’ve been a better guess here, but delivered Philipsen perfectly once again. Green jersey more important so it seems.
Long power sprints are not a part of Mathieu's proper. I think the pick of Jasper was absolutely right by Alapacin. However, he could do zero to an uphull Pedersen power sprint efforts at its peak after a hard raced stage.
