Not a great lead out by Laporte. Too slow and not then instead of pulling off just sort of slowed down, leaving Wout boxed. He clearly had good kick to come back for third. Without being boxed, he might have won.

Laporte was doing work as early as 8km to go. Thats not how you control a leadout.

Already getting messages that Mathieu did Wout dirty. We Belgians can complain a lot if our favorite rider gets boxed in.

That’s why Pedersen was practicing his 500m intermediate sprint yesterday. What a strong effort to hold him off, classic Mads sprint victory!!
I think Mathieu would’ve been a better guess here, but delivered Philipsen perfectly once again. Green jersey more important so it seems.
Wout looked the strongest, Laporte not. If he focuses on his teammates he’s never in a good position, last years he did it himself and was always in 3th wheel or so.

Van Aert making his entire team work at the expense of Vingegaards safety only to lose every battle for position in the final 500m.
Agree on every other stage than this one. Full gas hard stage from the gun and 4-5% uphill power sprint, do you really think Van Aert could have done anything to Pedersen today, even if TJV pulled for WvA all day? I'm pretty convinced Mads would've won anyway today. The other days however, I'm in line with you.
*edit* In addition, bear in mind that Mads even put monster effort in break attempts at a couple of occasions at the start of the stage.
I'm pretty convinced that every "what could have been" discussions can be safely closed down for today's stage.

After seeing Skjelmose today, I'm banking on him attacking tomorrow, either in the early break, or at the bottom of Puy de Dome.
