It's a sad reminder of Sagan's demise that he would be a shoo-in for this stage for five years, but now he's not even mentioned.
Not exactly first time in bike racing history witnessing a patron floating along like the light beer in the barrel.
However, I would too like him to do some race display, if just for a few times, ao that you are not left with an uncontrollable feeling that he is taking a place for a younger and far more eager rider who would rather die with his boots on every single day.

It's TotalEnergies we're talking about, so I don't think he is.

How many guys have been at the top for more than 10 years like Sagan? Let him enjoy his last year as he wants.

Quick Step has not won anything, and they are accustomed to winning a lot. I think Alaphillipe will give us a show today.
After 2019 I thought Ala would go on to win the Tour after Rank 5. I had no idea that soon after, his best years would be behind him.

Sad story… I hope he finds joy again, soon, after his career as a pro rider…

To me Ala is a sad post crash story, just like Belokí, Froome and other riders with career implying effect. And until Giro this year I would've counted Roglic too. And Asgreen too, but national TT and now first week of the Tour seems he might be back, though still not at same level, still misses last 15% to be in Tour de Suisse '22 pre-crash top shape.

Sagan should just ride in front of the pack at around km 54 when he is still fresh and do a few wheelies like the clown he's become.

I respect his career but what an incredible drop off it has been.

One begin to wonder if Bernal will ever get back pre-crash form.

Apart from actual deaths has a greater potential career in cycling ever been snubbed by crashes?

I guess A. Schleck wasn't that different but he already seemed to be weaker than Contador ans wouldn't have been too likely to derail the Sky Train that was getting going.

We didnt get to see what he could do among the pros, but Adrien Costa comes to mind.
