Pog is dropping Vingegaard. He couldn't do that last year so I'd say this is a big improvement for Pogačar.

Especially on climbs & in temperatures which people said would favor Vinge.

I know its not a popular opinion, but I don´t actually like either of Pogacar and Vingegaard.. To me there are other riders, that I rather become champions.
But it is not a popularity contest, it is about the legs and a tad abotu how well you are tactical

Another great stage, though I was gutted for Jorgenson. The GC battle was great, too. In the end, Pog took 8 seconds. So, he's been better than Vingo in four stages (gained time in 4 stages), and Vingo has been better than Pog in one stage. And yet ... Vingo leads by 17 seconds. Pidders may yet make the podium. Pog has to be the favorite for the overall, now.

The climb is only a HC because of the super steep part.

Puy de Dôme - 13,3km @ 7,7%
Alpe d'Huez - 13,8km @ 8,2%

Not that far out given the steepness. Also Joux-Plane is 11,5km @ 8,5%, and Plateau des Glières got HC status at 6km @ 11,2%.

Edit: oh, and Pla d'Adet, 10,2km @ 8,3%, has also been given HC before, as was Finhaut-Emosson (Col de la Gueulaz) in its sole appearance in 2014, 10,4km @ 8,4%.

But now I actually do believe the “undercooked but very best climbing version of himself” Pogacar story as well. And actually not surprising to crack than on the first hard mountain stage if you have no race days before.

Pogs acceleration the most vicious i've seen in a long time. I think we should accept they are really close on the climbs, and that stage 5 was really a bad day from Pogi. Recovery, tactics and weather will likely decide the Tour.

This time it's currently 2:1 to Pog and really anyone's guess who'll be on top on next mountain stage. Psychological advantage must clearly be with Pog though.

According to Jumbo, their sports scientists identified "recovery" as one of the few areas where Vingegaard was better than Pogacar... and results week 3 the last 2 years appear to support that theory.
