In Denmark, Aurillac is known for its POW camp during World War 1. Hundreds of young Danish men were placed here, having been taken prisoners in a war in which they were forced to fight for a country, Germany, that wasn't theirs. Fortunately, the Danish POWs were treated well because the French had sympathy for them as non-German conscripts, and because there was lots of help coming from their motherland.
