What counts as zero experience? That of Manolo Saíz?Well I think zero experience is less valid, and the more experienced a racer is, the more valid I would say the commentary is, generally.
But agree on all the rest, 100%.

After Tourmalet there isn't a better climb than this side of hourquette ancizan?Tourmalet and Pla d'Adet tomorrow. The race for the GC is now on.
I appreciate having the comments/insights from folks who have significant racing experience.Well I think zero experience is less valid, and the more experienced a racer is, the more valid I would say the commentary is, generally.

So you were 100% in favor of the shoulder? 🤣🤣🤣I appreciate having the comments/insights from folks who have significant racing experience.
Of course, to discuss this crash I was drawing from my experience playing (American) football. 🤣
What I noticed moving through the ranks is that you get a bunch of knucklehead crashes at the lower levels up through about Cat 3. Above that most of the crashes are crashes of aggression, particularly in sprints, but you still get the knucklehead crashes, even in the WT. I know there are bigger fields and longer races in the WT and therefore more opportunity but they crash all the time and most of the time it's just a touch of wheels. And was the experience at that level fundamentally different? All I ever noticed was that it got safer the further up the rankings you went, because more people knew what they were doing. I would occasionally race Cat 2 with my team (never qualified, but was allowed) and it was so much cleaner than Cat 3. Guys knew what was up.
Sunday is the harder stage —this will be the warmupAfter Tourmalet there isn't a better climb than this side of hourquette ancizan?
It was better a different climb than this side of hourquette before Pla adet. Or, a finish on Col du Portet instead of Pla adet.
Yeah, but maybe aspin or azet would be better instead of hourquette, looking at the map.Sunday is the harder stage —this will be the warmup
It was definitely a good hit, but I was thinking Capiot has already stepped out of boundsSo you were 100% in favor of the shoulder? 🤣🤣🤣
Indeed.Yeah, but maybe aspin or azet would be better instead of hourquette, looking at the map.
Well played, sir!It was definitely a good hit, but I was thinking Capiot has already stepped out of bounds
Really? I think there have been some valid points made by people with differing opinions here but a front on slow-mo of just the moment they come together is not enough to judge anything. Post two overhead vids, one in slo-mo and one in full speed from just before Van Gils starts to move up and Capiot pulls off and ask your question again.
Seeing that head on in slomo makes it appear pretty egregious, and it's obvious by my comments I think he should be sent home, but the natural instinct of self preservation can switch on very quickly. He may very well have felt he had no choice but to do what he did to save himself, whether that was right or wrong. I'd like to hear his side of the moment.
Yeah, would love to use those curves that are part of the old auto race course.I don’t know why for the Pau finishes they don’t occassionally use the short steep climb up from the river up to the Cathedral/chateau just for some variety. Though It’s not long enough to make a big difference.
There’s also the fact that all of these guys are gassed at the end of a hard stage and a tough 2 weeks of racing. Amazing their brains can function at all by that point!Seeing that head on in slomo makes it appear pretty egregious, and it's obvious by my comments I think he should be sent home, but the natural instinct of self preservation can switch on very quickly. Yes, mistakes by both riders. If I was a commissar, I say no fines. If you watch Van Gils’ wheel he’s really close to the barriers and almost hits them even after the shoulder. I think it was self preservation, once he got to that point it was the only option. Seems like a racing incident imo, both guys could have been better but also really hard to judge best options in a split second.
So he was relegated and fined.
I agree. Fairly sure I know what I'd have done there. Protect myself and let the chips fall where they may.

Sounds like it. 1500 as well, not a wife-kisser.So he was relegated and fined.
