They better do Alpe d'Huez like in Dauphiné 2017 next time it features. After Galibier.
The problem is that there will be lots of (silly) criticism of them avoiding the traditional way up if they do, so they're damned either way if they finish there right now.

They had around 19 minutes to lose on the final climb
They were listed at 38 minutes and close to 10 minutes to the Girmay group some 40 kms to go, and suddenly the gap plummeted to 35 minutes and 5 in arreas to the Girmay peloton in a matter of 5 kms or so.

This is why I despise Cav's record. It is build up on constant cheating to avoid the time cut.

Sadly there’s plenty of third placed riders who should have won a tour but weren’t up to the top dogs. Should just avoid them and rack up the Giros and Veulta imo
Honestly, Remco is an amazing rider, and I'm a huge fan. He has impressed mightily so far, so I in no way mean to cut him down at all. But I would just hate to see him wasting himself fruitlessly chasing something he's never going to be, and lose the best parts of what he can be. He's not the 2nd coming of Eddy Merckx, Pogacar is.

I think that’s probably it in terms of how the GC top three finishes, barring injury or sickness. On review, Vingegaard is maybe just that 5% off it due to that horrendous crash that destroyed his Tour build up. It’s incredible to think he’s at the level he’s at to be honest. The other thing that’s hindered him is the relative weakness of his team. Their passivity, up until today when they had no choice, has allowed Pogacar to control the tempo of the entire race. When Vingegaard won his tours, Visma/Jumbo rode the race hard every day and put Pogacar under constant pressure, a constant grind that put Pogacar on the back foot and then was exploited in the big mountains. Expect Visma to take heart from this performance and to challenge big next year with a much stronger team and a fit and flying Jonas.

Visma will try again in the Alps. They will hope that Tadej has a bad day, but UAE has done a great job make sure that Tadej is hydrated, fed, and rested. Even if Tadej does by chance have a bad day, he won't lose 3 minutes.

With Cav's record, it's worth keeping in mind that he rode it 15 times. Eddie Merckx rode it 8. And the organizers asked Merckx not to ride because he was dominating and ruining the race.

I admit that I have only watched mostly the Grand Tours this year, but can someone explain what is Derek Gee doing inside the top10 of TDF?

It's quite simple really.

After 15 stages, Mr Gee's total time completed including any bonuses is the 9th fastest out of all the competitors.

It seems like mountain stages are getting too easy nowadays with these record breaking ascents.

Race design is my passion, so I propose this stage from Sierra Nevada to Sestriere.
It's only about 95 km, so some sort of starting grid could be a nice addition to really shake things up.
