They are just bringing the best team available. Kuss is not there and thats a real bummer, but apart from that, its a very similar team to those of 22 and 23. They have been very strong in stages where Vingegaard might otherwise have lost time as well.
But is kuss really good this year? He seems to have been destroyed by last years 3 Gt's imo. Dont think Kuss would do much this year. Kuss from previous years, yes.

Vingegaard is at least trying to do something with his so-called TdF team, but precarious how weak the rest of Visma is, - but at least he is giving such a big Tour-stage a shot across the bow.
And its better to use the little his teammates seems to muster, before they gone either way and they cleared a huge part of the maingroup, so that's something.
That sounds like he rides for Uno-X. Obviously UAE’s tactic of using the monetary advantage worked for their mountain strength. But “so-called TdF team”, is a bit harsh when they have the 2nd largest number of riders in the group. And having to deal with an unexpected weakness of WvA and Kuss this year.

Tbf:

2022: Vingegaard, Roglic, Kuss, Kruijswijk

as best 4 climbers. That is just a whole different beats.

I agree vs 2023 in general. Though Kuss is a big miss. And Kelderman and van Aert were in waaay better climbing form.

They probably could have brought one more climber though.

One more climber was also the plan. Lemmen was a last minute replacement due to Kuss being ill. And Kruijswijk got injured too.

Why does UAE have to catch the break? If Visma doesn't why would UAE ride? (this a comment to commentators saying UAE has to ride if Visma cannot do it anymore)
If Visma stops riding in the valley, UAE will probably put a man on the front and do some kind of steady tempo. Not to catch the break, but to limit the amount of chaos that could ensue in the favourites group if nobody rides.
