Still a better tactic than if they had just tried to make the race hard by riding on front of the peloton imo, however this turns out, at least they are making UAE do something at this point too. Missing a good Van Aert and Kuss though, definitely

If you wanted UAE to pace, you could have done literally nothing, the race leaders would set pace on the climbs regardless of Jorgenson being in the break I think.

I find that Iseran doesn't link too well with other climbs..... ie there's about a 40-50km descent after it.

Ofc, just a morning starter punishment ensuring an exhausting stage in the end.
Indeed easy to find quite more "packed" stage designs.
But "overly HC crowded" stage designs tend to lead to defencive races and grumpy young men at the CN forum And even though they typically are 'saved' by opportunistic breakaways. Yesterday I was very good entertained.

I thought Iseran/Tinges was a decent idea for a stage and it's a bit of a shame it didn't happen
