I am surprised that MVDP is not in the breakaway as he can do the finish if the break survives.

This is setting up for a nice boring tour stage, but if it keeps on keeping on, then Bardet might keep yellow. Every silver lining has a cloud.

DSM want's to save their riders for stage 4, and they don't need to work because everyone in the break is so far behind.

When the gap balloons to 7-8 minutes, UAE/Bora will be forced to take over if they want the stage win.

Well yeah DSM obviously shouldn't. Also better to have the boni seconds gone if you want a shot at keeping yellow.

But UAE and others... They are just making it hard for themselves letting such a strong break go, if they even want to win.

We'll still get GC action in the end, UAE is sure to test the rivals on San Luca - twice

Agreed, but they want to delay doing it, there is still over 160 k to go, and at the moment DSM is pulling, albeit lightly, so they are holding off on the decision.

We also have to remember that UAE (arguably) only has 4 Doms, and burning them up in the heat over 160 K, might bite them in the arse on stage 4, so I think they are waiting for Bora to blink first, because Roglic wants the stage.

It's very exciting. Will the peloton snail pace the Monticino out of respect for Cav?

Lotto, agreed.

Jayco is a different thing, as they have GC aspirations with Yates and also want to save their sprint train for tomorrow, so they are probably hesitant to dedicate the entire team to a demonstration today.

Yesterday a fine chasse patate by Healy. Today Matthews and Van Moer dangling between peloton and break. A great opening weekend!
I picked Matthews in my fantasy team so seeing him blow his chances on a failbridge is making me quite mad
