the problem is that UAE can more or less dictate where the cabinet shall stay, as they have like 5 riders that all seem to be over Visma's second strongest rider.
If VIngegaard gonna be this alone on mountain stages, against a handful of UAE... that is serious uphill for Vingegaard trying to wear Pogacar.

Agreed, this year is when Vingo would have needed a top Kuss, and he's not there.

Kuss did have a fantastic habit of being there when needed though...

but with Jorgenson and Kelderman already having wounds to lick, and van Aert not in previous years shape seemingly?

Does not look anything like the help Vingegaard got the last 2 years.

I don't disagree, but we've got like a week of screwing around on flat roads before we do anything like this again, so a lot of people could be feeling a lot different by then.

I'm astounded at the tour over comments. Almost all that time was taken on the descent, and it's week one.

Beautiful to watch. Going to be a great tour I think
These are similar to rhe comments that Tadej had won rhe race last year when he won seconds from Jonas in early stages. But I think this year is different. Jonas is not 100 percent, and it showed today.

The French...

20. G.Martin +4:01
43. R. Bardet +9:53

FDJ not at the finish yet.

Bardet obviously just let go completely when he realized he couldn't play GC. Smart play.

Martin is just his level honestly what do you expect.

Martinez shouldn't have been here and Gaudu was in the break.

I don't think the French are complaining with 2 stage wins and a day in yellow already

I dont think the Tour is over but Visma team are poor ...Vinge could have done with someone over that climb

I think they shouldn't panic though

I thought Remco did very well but needs to do some descending practice

Good that he and Landa were there to the top of the climb ...all still to fight for for them

Roglis looked poor on the ascent though

Rodriquez looked good and a very good descender
Remco lost about 15-20 based on descending alone. Otherwise he was possibly faster than pogi on straights

That gap for Pogacar looks really big and will probably be quite a bit bigger after the TT. But honestly, since the next high mountain stage happens 11 days from now, we have no idea what the balance of power will be then. The only thing we know now is that once the peloton hits the pyrenees, it's Visma that needs to attack and not UAE.

There are 8 riders on a different planet versus the rest of the peloton.

The big question is what their respective form curve is going to be. Things could change quite dramatically in the third week.

UAE did what I expected them to on the Galibier (& I'd have done the same), but Vingegaard isn't out of this. I'd say the others aren't either. It wasn't Grand-Bornand 2021, that's for sure.

The ITT's are going to be very important.

On a more random note - Mühlberger is such a strange rider. Good enough climber to do top 20-30 at his days at the Tour from the Peloton (19th today, but more results like this in the past), yet almost no climbing wins in his career (Sibiu Tour probably the most relevant).

He’s the world champion and the team leader as well as leadout man. He probably has freedom to do whatever he wants. Plus didn’t Jasper crash yesterday and who knows what kind of shape he is in.

I disagree. The move makes no sense at all. MVDP is at the TDF for two reasons. To win a stage or two himself and help Philipsen win stages.

Congrats to Teddy on a great win! He gained a lot of precious time over his rivals today (45-50' bonis included).

Galibier was a demonstration of power by UAE but Almeida gesticulating at Ayuso for not working and both taking turns at the front was comical! Pogacar attacked late by it was very powerful. He easily dropped other guys except Vingo, who matched him initially but paid for this effort soon. The descent was even more telling: on the steep part the gap between them was steady around 10-15' but later on the shallower part Vingo started losing more, clearly missing some power. Evenepoel strong uphill but was overtaken on the steeper part. Rogla, Rodriguez, Landa and two UAE guys are still in contention for the podium.
