Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 10: Ennezat – Le Mont-Dore (165.3k)

Its not really up for debate, its been the norm for decades.
Being in yellow on rest day is one of the biggest intermittent goals in the Tour de France, and having all the buzz, that is paramount for any team and its sponsors and its visitors.
Your not dropping a yellow jersey before rest day with purpose.
Pogacar doesn’t give a crap about having yellow on the rest day. That’s ridiculous. Pogi cares about winning the race overall. He freewheeled a breakaway rider for the last KM. Jonas did too. Either one of them could have blown Lenny away if they were in the least bit concerned about a day in yellow on a freaking Tuesday before the real mountains begin.

...but but but, Jonas might have gained 1.3148791643 seconds on Pogacar of he'd attacked...

Obvious strategy is obvious. Someone explain why Jonas should have done something else on that climb, against that rider. Explain it to me like I'm a 5 year old, because only a 5 year old mentality could explain why anything else was logical.
They wanted Pogacar to make a mistake and overextend. If they wanted fatigue they should have paced much harder the whole day and kill Pog's team much earlier. Then he would have been in yellow as well.
The moment Pogacar attacked every thought from Vingegaard about moving evaporated.

And the "fatigue"-thing is just complete nonsense. Pogacar won't get fatigued by riding his own pace while Vingegaard desperately tries to limit his losses.
It's.Their.Only.Hope.

Everyone hating on Jonas: POG IS GOING TO DESTORY HIM ON HAUTACAM, HE IS THE GOAT, NOBODY CAN BEAT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...but Jonas should definitely attack him on a climb he has no chance of getting a gap, and Visma should definitely just allow Pog's domestiques to rest a bit before Thursday, because they're stupid not to...

Jonas: I am riding in the best way I think I can have a chance of winning.

Everyone hating on Jonas: YOU IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vingegaard's best chances are in hectic hilly stages or crosswinds.
Visma's PR interviews about making the race harder are just a big portion of COPIUM.

This year he has weaker team... so there is some luck for TJV.
It’s irrelevant if there Vingegaard can’t capitalize on it by forcing him to chase a rider of Roglic’s caliber.

Pogacar’s preperation this year was uninterrupted. To beat him, you have to tag team him or attack him when he is undercooked.

The most interesting stage may be the Mtn TT. It’s one stage where I could see Jonas take a bite out of Tadej if things are a stalemate on Hautacam.

I don't see how Pogacar is happy here. He tried to drop Vingegaard, couldn't and his team looked much the weaker today. Also, the Blacklisted team won the stage. That's thrice reason for his ire.
He wasn't.. and why he smirked.
Lost jersey before rest-day. (nobody wanna do that on purpose, as why you should you.. - TdF for any team is about promotion and restday is as big as it comes) .
Visma dictated the stage and won it... He couldn't drop Jonas, and lost one of his biggest helpers..
Today United Arabic had to take a backseat on a siginificant mountainstage like this and let the bricks fall as other teams decided.
Not a stage UAE or Tadej will look back on with fondness, but the stack is still in his favor, didnt loose time to Jonas.
Bigger stages to come.

In that moment, Vingegaard did exactly what he knew he would have to, the entire stage.

Don't think Pogi is too worried about Rogla, anymore.

You could make the argument that Vingegaard hasn’t had the long climb advantage since 2022 to be honest.

2024 he matched/beat Pogacar on stages 2 and 11 but got dropped everywhere else.

2023 he created huge gaps on Marie Blanque and Combloux but couldn’t distance Pogacar on longer climbs and even got distanced himself. Yes he lost time on Cauterets but that’s because he cooked himself trying to drop Pogacar on Tourmalet.

Obviously Loze is the exception but that was due to accumulated fatigue and imo not indicative of Pogacar’s actual climbing level that tour.
You could argue that Vingo has the advantage absolutely nowhere. Pog is just better in every sense when but are full fit.

Visma did nothing to put fatigue into Pog today. Strictly nothing at all. It was UAE on the front controlling with their own tempo.

If the plan is as you say it is, they would have drilled the stage with their entire team on the front of the bunch wouldn't they? But they didn't. They sat behind a non-stressed UAE team until near the end and a few skirmishes.

Cool it down a bit, please. It literally isn't his only chance... Because there's no way it'll work. Much better to just desperately try to find some minutes in weird places.

Do people really think UAE care that much about Visma winning a stage? Genuine question, I'm not being antagonistic!

I can't work out the significance of Pog not being able to drop Jonas on these short, steep climbs. It certainly looks like Vingegaard has improved since the Dauphine, but what this will mean once they reach the proper mountains, I'm just not sure.

He has to try to take time on those stages, because Pogacar will take time on him on all of the MTFs. It's easy to understand.
Well I disagree. But thats okay. I believe the building fatigue and trying to crush it on a hard MTF is the best strategy. You believe another strategy is better. Thats fine. We will see in the end where it all ended.

All in all I just hope for some competition and thus entertainment.

I do agree with Chewbacca on the part about the "all praise Lord pogi hes the GOAT" part... Why should we? There's no fun in a one man show. Let's bring on the competition in anyway. I am kind of amazed its still a fight... But i still fear its over on the first real MTF.

Spot on.
Let me say something else.
Yesterday's stage was 50 km/h. I have repeated that a dozen times but I'll do it again. Such stages hurt a smaller rider like Jonas.
Last year Stage 13 was a super fast echelon day. Stage 14 Pog dropped Jonas and on Stage 15 he finished him. In fact Jonas digging so deep caused him to be weaker in the third week.
Don't be surprised if Jonas collapses this year if pushed over his limit.
'' The make the race harder'' is a mantra they keep repeating but when they get a reality check on FTP like a time trial or a long mountain they say:' 'We don' t know what happened. ''

As special as Pog is, he's not immune to mental mistakes. That's the most logical path to victory for the bees. If they just tow him around France the next week and a half, it's going to be pretty anticlimactic with Pog being increasing his lead on every MTF. They need to him to overcook a corner or have a feeding mistake without a teammate nearby.
