Last time the TDF came this way up the Glandon was 2017, when Contador did that insane attack to bridge across to a break. Nostalgia.

Think he waits for the steep part to bridge, no point killing himself on the false flat.

Wellens upfront as a safety net makes sense for UAE (and it's actually the tactic Visma has been doing for years), I just don't think he (or most people) will actually get over the Madeleine ahead of the GC group the way its going right now.
