Pointless right now. He doesn't need to gain anything, knows he'll lose a sprint to Pogi, and if memory serves me right, Pogi did exactly the same (with all right to do so) several times this tour.
Your memory is fairly accurate.. Best bet that looks unlikely is to allow anyone else to get in front of Pogacar..just pacing and attack from behind and hope if other riders counter they get in Pog's way and disrupt his straight line.. with Pogacar in front he will jump like the times before and everyone will desperately try to keep his wheel....7k out and @35 back it will have to happen soon..

Impossible to make any significant difference in this climb without someone pacing super hard and keeping everyone on the limit before a huge attack.
Pogacar pace is very low at the moment.

If anything UAE needs an even worse line up. I'm talking a climbing team with Mareczko, Quaranta, Cipollini, Guardini, Milan, Martinez and me to help Pogačar. Then we'd may get some real excitement.

It's not that bad.

All you need is ONE more rival quality rider in the team, and then race dynamics change completely.

It's easy for Pogacar to control just Vingegaard - but if he had to control both him and another rider of similar quality - that took turns attacking him, it would be a different matter.

They hoped Jorgenson could be that rider, but he is a level below.

Vingegaard cannot drop Pogacar, the only way he wins the stage is by wheelsucking Pogacar and attacking with 400m to go.
