I think the kitchen renovation was a few years ago. So maybe the real issue is that he hasn't been renovating any kitchens lately.

At the weather station at Caen airport (very close to the route), the wind was 7 km/h at 14:00 and 14 km/h at 17:00. So not exactly a dramatic difference between when Affini was riding and when the GC riders were riding, and therefore not enough to matter by more than a handful of seconds on a route that starts and finishes in the same place.

Difference between 7 and 14 seems significant..?

Maybe. I feel like performances in the Dauphine and Suisse are always somewhat...erratic vs actual form come the Tour. Seems hella strong to me right now, on all the terrain we've seen.

For SURE it's a heavy, heavy course, and there will be some major casualties.

I think Primoz and Florian showed the wear and tear of maintaining contact with the gaps JV worked to create. Jonas and Matteo definitely demonstrated what a week of that aggression cost in the TT; especially Jonas. Matteo needs some rest, too as he should be considered seriously as one of the podium possibilities.

The reaction to the giro 2015 should not have been to remove very long ITTs because the best climber did not win. The thing to do would have been to tell Aru and Landa to ride their damn TT bike for once

Jonas and Jorgenson were worse than expected, I would say. And if the argument was made about Pogi im the past (especially also from the DS at Visma), then why not consider it here? Drilling it with a sub 60kg rider through crosswinds and hectic run ins yo hilly sprints should in all logic take a lot out of him.

Wasn't gonna help him though. Pogacar and Vingegaard are so much better in climbing that they would win anyway.
And Pogacar in particular is a great TTer in GTs. Don't think he would lose more than a minute (and that's a lot IMO) over 65 kilometres.

And in the second time trial he would've lost even less.

For me, the objection to the lack of TT miles is independent of any particular rider.

I just object to skinny climbers having such an advantage, when it used to be that riders who had more power and versatility had an advantage.

Yeah, I'm sure the guy who was pushing +460W for over 30min in TTs at the age of 20 is not powerful, give me a break. Maybe you should do your homework before before writing some nonsens.
The guy has wide shoulders and an actually rather poor position, modern materials making tts faster and faster, so that aerodynamics become more important that raw power is actually bad for him.

Yeah, I'm sure the guy who was pushing +460W for over 30min in TTs at the age of 20 is not powerful, give me a break. Maybe you should do your homework before before writing some nonsens.

even something like 2007 would be fine, though I think a long TTT should also be in every tour

2007 was a climbers tour, despite ~110km of flat ITT. Pre Gouvenou, we had real mountain stages. Even Pescheux gave us a couple of real mountain stages

Torque would be a sprinter...Ganna does not have torque...he winds it up and stays there like a freight train.

2007 was a climbers tour, despite ~110km of flat ITT. Pre Gouvenou, we had real mountain stages. Even Pescheux gave us a couple of real mountain stages

2007 was not a climbers TdF parcours by any stretch of the imagination. The Alps where absolutely horrendously designed. You had a cat 1 descent finish to start, a 5% MTF and Galibier with 40km of descent to go.

Pyrenees were nothing crazy either, apart from having 2 HC mountain finishes. Peyresourde after Bales is pretty mid, and Plateau de Beilles only had Paillheres in the stage.

Aubisque stands out as the only massive mountain stage but that cancels itself by being an Aubisque MTF
