And there is the decisive moment. Pauliena couldn't match Demi's descending prowess all the way down to the bottom of the descent.

The problem for Pauliena now is that she's also horrible against the clock, so she ideally needs to be working with Demi in the valley.

Meanwhile Kerbaol is pulling Kasia out of the chase group with some descending that is... slightly different to that of Pauliena Rooijakkers.

Nah, came back as expected.

Now DV trying to bully a turn out of PR. As close to a teammate that she gets.

Marty: "at this stage Pauliena Rooijakkers isn't just threatening the stage win, she would be threatening to possibly even win the GC"

Marty, based on current time gaps, then she would win the GC automatically if she won the stage, because she's basically tied with Kasia but there's time bonuses.

However, even if her and Demi ride arm in arm all the way to the Alpe, she loses a sprint to Demi Vollering eleven times out of ten.

Chase is better organised (or just better equipped for riding on the flat, since one half of the tête de la course is Pauliena Rooijakkers), but they only have 5k or so until the climb starts, and Alpe d'Huez starts with its steepest parts too.

Brand is happy to do the work for Realini, and Kasia is having to work because it's her responsibility, and may pay for that even if they catch Demi and Pauliena.
